Anyone remember that song…I think it even predates our antedeluvian era.
Don’t know about anyone else, but I’m still “glowing” a bit. I just want to thank everyone for a wonderful time…especially the committee. (I never actually thought of myself as a real member of the committee, ensconced in my hideaway in Georgia just pecking away at the computer.) And Sherry, I think, went above and beyond in devotion to the cause. (Get healed quick, Sherry!)
That was a class act, y’all…it would be great if we could use this forum to thank those responsible, and to express our thoughts about the reunion..and perhaps share thoughts about what’s next for us.
Among the most surprising and rewarding effects of the reunion is getting to know folks that I didn’t know really well in high school, but who are warm and kind people that I want to continue to know well.
My best to everyone…and let’s keep talking.

Hi everyone…just had another thought. (Paul Simon, my hero, wrote a pertinent song…”think too much.”)
Read a nice essay in the NY Times Book Review..check it out HERE.
The main thrust is that even if we forget most of the detail of what we read, we are made different in some way because of the reading..even if we didn’t learn what we wanted to…for instance high school textbooks, we retain stuff that makes a difference.
I apply the theory to people we’ve met that fade in memory, or have, at least, dropped deep enough in memory to avoid easy recall. I think we’re changed..altered…made better, hopefully, by everyone we have known. I’ve been beating myself up for what seems to me to be a woefully inadequate recall of some people I’ve known…now perhaps I can ease up on myself. Perhaps we’ll all grant each other and ourselves a period in which we can, with some grace, recall…reacquaint…reconnect..with each other.
Let’s “reunite.”

Hi classmates! Is anyone out there? Anyone want to comment on anything class related? Memories, reunion commentary, philosophies about what the implications of an actual 50th (!!!!!!!!!) reunion are?
I, for one, have been in pure and radiant denial about what this is about, but a switch of a sort clicked in my mind the other day. A half-century out of high school has so many layered meanings. For some reason the approach of this reunion has kind of made what followed high school directly seem to have passed quickly and without much attention. I’ve never been tempted to attend a college class reunion, though many have, I know. In many ways, my college years shaped who I am more directly. Still…as we approach November I seem to take college for granted, while high school looms larger..at least for the time being. Maybe because I took my higher education in fits and starts. Our high school years, for most of us, were compact and highly integrated. We splintered and scattered after that…and the re-gathering is significant..and to me seems larger than relationships with specific people we knew in high school. There’s a latent affection for everyone from SPHS that is brought out by the reunion. Its amazing how that community that we formed without intention lingers in our hearts.
I’m hoping that along with the lavish setting to which we’re invited there is a lot of focus on a group that’s larger than any of us…I’ll look forward to talking with everyone, especially, perhaps, the ones that my feeble memory has buried in the rubbish heap of burnt synapses at the back of my head somewhere.
Anyone else with thoughts…hopefully better expressed than these!
Visit the website often…new pictures are being put up in our Then and Now…we have over 50 of those sometimes amusing pairings now…check in the various slide shows as well…new candid pictures of our classmates are going up all the time.

In this morning’s St. Pete Times was the obituary of Hazel Triplett. She and her husband ran Triplett’s across the street..which everyone knows.
Let’s see how many stories about that hallowed place we can put together. I’ll start.
After rock and roll gigs played mainly at the Gulfport Casino, we’d gather at Tripletts to see who was there. One night I ran into Brent Tuthill and his visiting cousin..who I think lived in Okinawa (who knows..I could be wrong..often am..memory like a steel sieve!). His cousin..Ted, I think his name was, was getting into some trouble or another. He asked Brent and me to ride in his car to meet some people out on the beach. Turns out he was in a large fight…Brent and I heard sirens so we sort of ducked down in the car seats. To no avail..we were picked up by the police and spent several hours in jail. My Dad showed up, looked through the door and started laughing. We got home about 4 in the morning, I think.
I think all that came out of it was some stern lecture from St. Pete High folks, and some sort of probation. I swore not to go to Triplett’s ever again…which lasted about a day. I loved that place, and it provided some great moments..not to mention the food.
I missed that place…at one point recently it was opened as a little slider joint and Jan and I went for old times’ sake…not all that good, but it was fun to hang out in the parking lot.
Everyone..tell your Triplett’s stories…or tell about other hangouts and what happened.

Hello Pep Band members!! We have several who have said yes, “We will play (or try to!”). They include Dan Beeman (cornet), Chuck Hickman (flute and saxophone), Peter Temko and Larry Kleinfeld (clarinet), and myself on drums. I KNOW there are more of you – how about Jean Manderscheid, Jerry Lane, Karen Christiansen, Susan Lyon, Charles Lipthrott, Shirley Queen, Wesley Banks, and you, too, Bob Brush!!
I am still trying to contact the current director of the SPHS band. His name is Jason Foster. He has finished his first year there. Seems very friendly and personable, but have not been able to speak to him further. Now that I live in a little town south of Peoria IL, I have less chance of meeting him in person.
It would be great to hear from you guys!!

Hi all…this is the opening salvo for what we hope will be an ongoing conversation about whatever interests you relating to the reunion in 2010.
Please use this blog for an exchange of ideas and memories relating to our shared experiences. We’d like to keep this conversation free of controversy and make it comfortable for all of us. To this end, let’s keep topics that might be sensitive like politics and religion for other venues.
That said, have at it.
